"I would purchase these boots again" 2009-12-25
By Ryan M. Adams (Oregon)
These boots are comfortable, rugged and I would defiantly recommend them. I have been using them for about a year and a half and the only complaint that I have is that they are no longer completely waterproof. They will still keep my feet dry while hiking through snow or wet fields, but if I completely submerge them water will enter the boot. When I first purchased them this was not the case but regardless I would buy this boot again.

"Great arch support for flat feet." 2009-12-23
By D. Nay (USA)
The built-in arch support is great for flat feet. Don't need to buy inserts and they are comfortable to wear all day. No more foot problems!

This is about the 4th pair of these that I have purchased. They fit and perform well. However, it appears that Vasque may be discontinuing them.

"Best Boot I have ever owned" 2009-12-08
By Don E. Beeler (Monroe, New York)
I have owned 6 pair of VASQUE Clarion GTX boots.

I go through a pair a year because I wear them every day, I wear out the bottom of the boot and have to get new ones. The one exception to that is I always have two pair, since they are nubuck leather they get a bit trashing looking after I use them for logging and my wife won't let me wear them in public so I have one work pair and one everyday pair. I do logging and split about 100 cords a year and I hike a great deal and last year I got into snowshoeing. This week I have done over 10 miles of snowshoeing.

I first bought this boot in Maine when I went to hike Cadillac Mountain in Acadia national park. The salesman at Cadillac mountain sports really knew his stuff. He asked are you going to wear them today and I explained I was going to start a 3 day hike that day.

IMPPORTANT NOTE: I added an insole on top of the existing foot bed

The salesman told me to buy the Vasque GTX and to upsize it by ½ a shoe size, then add an insole (made by a company Superfeet only use the blue insole not the green ones) Superfeet® Active Insoleson top of the existing foot bed. Do not remove the existing foot bed; just put the new one on top of it. I wear a 9.5 shoe so I got a size 10 boot. I used a Superfeet blue size E insole. SPECIAL NOTE: this works for me and my setup, but some people have had problems with the insole cutting into the goretex, this has never happened to me an I don't trim the foot I just put it in. If this is an issue or concern Superfeet has retailers that can make a custom insoles that will solve the problem, but I would just try the off the shelf product first.

This is the most comfortable setup I have ever had. You can do anything you want on the first day you get the shoe.

Two negatives,

1. The nubuck leather gets dirty easy (I should try the leather ones but this works for me)

2. the shoe lace eyelets cut the shoelaces so get extra shoelaces. I need new shoelaces every 6 months.

"Sturdy construction, not stupid-looking, second pair I've owned" 2009-11-27
By Paul M. Bauer (NYC)
These are great Goretex day-hikers. And I wear them in the city in light snow and slush. They are exceptionally solidly constructed, and provide a lot of support and traction on the trail. I always buy Goretex boots, and always Vasque.

One of the aspects of this boot I most enjoy is that they don't have any fluorescent colors to make it look like I'm wearing a neon sign. I am an adult, and enjoy my footwear without lurid colors and oversized logos.

 "Finally found my match!!!" 2010-04-03
By Michigan Wildflower (Lapeer, MI)
Just finished a two day, first of the season backpacking trip. Wore these boots for the first time. After owning too many pairs of boots that rubbed at the back, sides and toes, I was determined to purchase a pair of narrow-width boots. I was concerned that they may be a little heavy and not as breathable as I would like for summer backpacking. I wore a sock liner and Smart Wool Socks. Perfect comfort! I have narrow feet (usually wear a AA in shoes), and I've always had trouble (blisters!) sloshing around in regular width hiking boots. Awesome for those of us who try to get by with wider-than-our-feet boots.

 "Sturdy and comfortable" 2009-12-06
By J. Simpson (Kansas City, MO United States)
I bought this boot in my usual boot size (1/2 larger than dress shoe) in a wide. I'm wearing this boot everyday to support a broken second metatarsal. It's comfortable and supportive. It has a generous toe box, but my feet do not slide forward in the boot when going downhill. I've only been out on short (3mile) easy hikes, so far, fit and comfort are great. Looking forward to more rigorous terrain once my foot heals. Very short break in period (first week I only wore 2-3 hours a day at work), now I wear all day. I usually wear with smartwool trek or tholo socks but these boots are also comfortable with thinner socks.

Update 12-25-09. Survived Kansas blizzard in these boots. After 2.5 hours out in snow feet are warm and dry. Awesome.

"I'm very pleased with these boots" 2009-11-17
By Online Angie
I wore these boots the first day I had them and a six mile hike was no problem. My feet stayed dry (a big problem with my old boots) and had plenty of support. I got narrow widths and they have a little room on the sides, but still fit fine. I compared the Vasques to several more expensive pairs of boots at an outfitter store and mine were the better made ones by far. Two things I had to get used to were the height of the boots and the weight, both more than any of my previous pairs.

 "Nice boots" 2009-10-27
By Kelley A. Nelson
Other than these boots being a bit on the heavy side, they are great! I am a biologist and get to wear them trapsing around all kinds of fun stuff. They've been great so far, and rainy season's coming up - can't wait to test 'em out in puddles!

 "Love Vasques." 2009-10-20
By Carrie Rinderle
This is my second pair of vasques and I love them. I am extremely hard on shoes and my first pair lasted about 7 years and are completely shot right now. The only thing that I was disappointed in is the ad says to buy a half size larger. In which I did to find that they were completely too big. I wear a 10.5, and ended up sending the 11s back and getting a size 10 instead (due to availability). Even with smartwool socks I have no problems with the 10. My experience only.

"great for the day hiker" 2010-04-25
By Cerileen (chicago, il)
This shoe was comfortable, slip free, dry and had a firm fit for the 1-5 hour hikes I took during a recent vacation. Terrain ranged from flat and wet to loose (but dry) rocky mountainy surfaces. I bought them a half size big which was perfect for wearing thick wool socks. The laces are a bit slippery and had to be retied more frequently than I would have liked, but that can easily be replaced so no mark off the stars.

 "Exactly what I expected" 2010-04-17

I tried these shoes on before I ordered them online so I knew they fit. They do run just a tad small, so would recommend you order 1/2 size larger than usual, which I did. Nice hiking shoe -- good support.

 "groovy shoes" 2009-09-12
By Roseamber Sumner (Lopez Island, WA USA)
These shoes fit! They are comfy, stay tied, keep on truckin' even when I'm jogging along trying to keep up with the dog. They are even handsome. I like 'em a lot. I took them on a trip to Africa last winter and wore them almost every day, even hot ones inside a bus and experienced no discomfort.

 "Outstanding light hiking shoe" 2008-11-18
By J. Grynberg (Chicago, IL)
This is without question the best shoe purchase I've made, I think, ever.

The fit is perfect, great support, solid build, super comfortable and attractive to look at. I wear them just for going out and about and they are fantastic for longer outdoor walks.

The next pair I purchase will definitely be the same brand.

Can't say enough about them!
